Digital media is a huge part of my everyday life. From the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep, I’m usually connected to something on my phone. Here’s what a typical day looks like for me, and some thoughts on how marketing fits into all of it.
My Typical Day
I usually start my morning by checking my phone before I even get out of bed. The first app I open is Instagram. I scroll through my feed, check my notifications, and look at what my friends and the accounts I follow have posted. This is honestly the app I use the most during the day. I’ll check it again during breaks, at lunch, and before bed.
Besides Instagram, I also use a few other apps and sites throughout the day, like YouTube for videos, texting apps to talk to friends, and search engines when I need to look something up quickly. But Instagram is the one I keep coming back to over and over again.
How I Feel About It
My feelings about digital media are honestly mixed. On the positive side, I like that I can stay connected with friends and family, see fun content, and find things that make me laugh or teach me something new. It’s a good way to relax for a few minutes.
On the negative side, I notice that sometimes I scroll way longer than I meant to. It’s easy to lose track of time. I also sometimes compare myself to what other people post, which isn’t always great for my mood. So while I enjoy using it, I try to be aware of when it starts feeling more negative than fun.
Digital Media and Marketing
One thing I really notice now is how much marketing is built right into digital media, especially on Instagram. Ads show up right in my feed and look almost the same as regular posts, so sometimes I don’t even realize it’s an ad until I look closer. Companies also use influencers a lot, having them show off products in a way that feels more personal and trustworthy than a normal commercial.
I’ve also noticed that ads feel very targeted. I’ll look up a product once, and then I start seeing ads for it everywhere. This shows how much marketing today relies on personal data and algorithms to reach the right people at the right time.
Overall, digital media plays a big role in my daily routine, and it’s clear that businesses know exactly how to use it to reach people like me.
